Recently I talked with former member and past President Allison McKay. She and her daughter Robin are living in Palm Springs, CA. Allison wishes she could bring the Fabulous Florida Follies to us again this year but could not get things such as a venue, costly insurance etc. together to do so. She will, however, be doing the Follies in Palm Springs. She misses you all and would love to hear from you. She lost her membership yearbook in her move and doesn’t have anyone’s phone number or address…Drop Allison a line and wish her well with the Palm Springs Follies!

INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS MONTH "HEIFER INTERNATIONAL"

INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS MONTH
INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT
"HEIFER INTERNATIONAL"

The Cocoa Beach Woman's Club International Affairs Department is presenting the program for the December 4th meeting at the Cocoa Beach Country Club. The speaker will be Teresa Apgar, District 6 HOPE Chairman for Heifer International.

Linda Dennis, GFWC Florida Federation of Women’s Clubs president, has chosen Heifer International as her President’s Project. Her Theme is "Sharing Hope for a Better Tomorrow" and the Symbol is The Ark Filled with Farm Animals. Her Goal is to annually raise funds to provide at least 14 “arks” of animals, one representing each of our 14 districts.

Across the United States and around the world, Heifer International is working with communities to end poverty and hunger. Through the gift of animals, plants and training this organization aids recipients in becoming self-reliant while providing a better standard of living, a feeling of dignity and hope.

Heifer’s gifts of animals offer marketable products of milk, eggs, wool, and other benefits that can be used to provide nutrition, health, and income for resource-poor families.

“Passing on the Gift” is the heart of Heifer International’s sustainable community development philosophy. Every family who receives an animal signs a contract to pass on one or more of their animal’s offspring to another family in need, along with the training and skills that they have acquired. This unique approach creates a ripple effect that transforms lives and communities.

Heifer International will have a table at the Christmas Bazaar on December 4th at the Cocoa Beach Country Club. Stop by and pick up something for yourself or for holiday gifts. They will also have Gift Cards where you can buy shares in an animal, these make wonderful gifts for everyone on your list, especially for the person who has everything!

Come and help us FILL THE ARK!

President's message Cocoa Beach Woman's Club

November 2008

The following are excerpts from the November message from Club President Pam Kendrick.

As we recite the collect each month, do we really think about what it says? We begin with keep us, O God, from pettiness and end with let us be kind.

When I joined the club I was so excited to be with an organization whose purpose was to serve the community. I was especially pleased that we were involved with providing scholarships. It seemed such a bonus that we could also enjoy each others company.

Our work with Macy’s added $600.00 to our scholarship funds. Thank you to Beth Gott, Irene Harrington, Barb Holden, Jan Mulberry and especially to Jean Carey for taking their turns selling the special percentage off cards at the mall entrance to Macy’s and to the club for supporting this fundraiser.

Also, thanks to Pauline Contakos, Ava Henry, Beth Gott and Barb Holden for our decorations and a really nice selection at our general meeting in October. We can be proud of our canned goods donations which were very generous and thankfully received by the Brevard Sharing Center.

We have a really exciting program planned for November.

We hope that we have presented some good and interesting programs for this year. When we have speakers of the caliber that have been lined up for the club the next couple of months, we hope you will support our efforts by making the effort to attend our meetings and bring a friend to enjoy our programs also.
