VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO HELP WITH 41ST ANNUAL PELICAN HOME TOUR

SATURDAY, MARCH 21, 2009

We are working on getting the 41st Annual Pelican home tour off and running. We will need to have all CBWC members volunteer to sit at a home for 2 1/2 hours at a time during the Home Tour.

Duties will include either handling ticket sales at the door or roaming the floors of a home or condo (1st & 2nd floors). In return, volunteers may get their Home Tour ticket for ½ price!

There will be signup sheets at our March Club Meeting. If you sign up to be the Chairman of a Home Tour site, your responsibility on the morning of the tour will be to pick up a small TV Table, folding chair plus the money box and programs of the day. These items need to be returned at the end of the day to the Art Festival office at 36 N. Orlando (Baileywick Plaza).

If we have five (5) houses, we will need three (3) volunteers on the AM shift (10 am to 12:30 pm) and 3 volunteers on the PM shift (12:30 pm to 3:00 pm) shift. This is 30 Volunteers needed - plus we need an additional volunteer (for each shift) to take care of handing out cookies and water at the home designated for snacks. If your husband or other relative or friend(s) will volunteer to help, they will be welcome!

Please look for the sign-up sheets at the March Meeting.
Any questions, call Barb Holden at 321-454-6010.

Thanks for your help to make this important scholarship fundraiser a huge success!

Arts & Crafts Update

We have some wonderful entries continuing on to the District Arts and Crafts Contest. However, I'm hoping next year we will have even more entries!

With that in mind, I'd like to ask for any members who are interested in creating and/or teaching crafts to contact me so we can develop a "Crafters Corner."

There are a HUGE number of categories that our members can enter for next year's contest, so there is something for everyone!

We also have opportunities to create a number of items for our Christmas Bazaar.

You don't have to think of yourself as "gifted" -- just interested in learning and having fun! If you have helped or been on the Crafts committee, please continue, we need you!

March Message from Pam Kendrick, President Cocoa Beach Woman's Club

I wish to thank everyone who helped in getting the annual reports together. Jean Carey did an enormous amount of work and I really can’t thank her enough. Claudia Davis helped me get my reports into the correct format and did an amazing job. Marilyn Grigsby provided needed data and made valuable suggestions. Barbara Holden gave me her previous annual reports to use as guides and gave me a feel for what each report should look like. Without all the help, the reports would have been nearly impossible. Thank you all.

We need an approximation on the value of your clothing from those who participated last month in the “Dress For Success” drive. At the end of the year, we must declare contribution amounts. This was a very successful drive due to all of your generous help.

Please plan to attend our next Fashion Show and Luncheon on February 28th. It promises to be a really nice day.

Ten first place awards were given to our members in February for their art/craft entries. The winners were Julia George, Pauline Contankas, Terry Ducharme, Janice Rogers, Jan Mulberry, Barbara Freeman and Rose Marie Wiley. The next step is to take the items to district judging in Palm Coast on February 26th. If we have a blue ribbon winner there, then we will be able to enter the state contest in the spring. Also, District 6 awards will be given on the 26th for all the categories we entered with our reports.

Plans are being made for the Pelican Home Tour at this time. There is a tremendous amount of work and coordination required to make this a success. It is planned for March 21st and we will need a large number of volunteers to hostess at the homes.

An error in Marilyn Grigsby’s information as “Member of the Month” in the last newsletter needs to be corrected. Marilyn was our club president from 1986 to 1988. Also, she is continuing as our Treasurer by being gracious enough to accept the job, not by a lifetime appointment.

Please continue to sell your Time Share Raffle tickets. The drawing will be on March 23rd. You need not be present to win.

Wish for the month of March: “For each petal on the shamrock this brings a wish your way. Good health, good luck, and happiness for today and every day.”

Fellowship and Community,

Pam Kendrick, President

Canaveral Lighthouse Bus Tour Update

We have been given April 8th as a date for our private tour of the Air Force Base and Lighthouse. However, Cape Security has furnished the club with a spreadsheet which requires the club to furnish each persons full formal name, address, date of birth, social security number and drivers license number. Each person must then show two photo ID's at the gate such as a drivers license and a current passport at the gate.

After careful consideration, the club has decided that we do not want to be responsible for the safekeeping of such private information, and we are therefore canceling the tour. We regret the need to do this.

There is a public bus tour on April 8th that has clearance, and there may be some room on the bus. If you are interested call 494-5949 or 494-5945.

Don Traver, Owner of "My Personal Jeweler" Speaker for March

INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT

The International Affairs Department is presenting the program for March and the speaker will be Mr. Don Traver.

Mr. Traver is the owner of "My Personal Jeweler" and he was the appraiser of fine jewelry at our Antique Appraisal Fair. His topic will be “what to be aware of when buying fine jewelry on board cruise ships, in other countries and in the U.S.”

This is a great opportunity to learn more about fine jewelry - what makes one stone more expensive than one that looks just like it, and why is it worth the difference in price.

COME AND BRING FRIENDS!
